Notes from this week

This week Max has been walking around saying some super-cute phrases:

"This is my best friend Mommy!" and "This is my best friend Ash!" We've been trying to get him to say "brother" when referring to Ash - but its not sticking yet. We'll work on it.

The preschool celebrated Halloween on Friday. Greg and I made capes for the boys - they went as superheros. Max went as, "The Max" and Ash went as, "Ash Bash" (that is his nickname at school). I made the capes and Greg designed the logo/emblem and then we ironed on the emblem. Max wore blue long john pants and a black shirt with a blue cape. (emblem was on the shirt as well) He also had red socks for "tights". Ash wore green and brown striped long john pants and a brown shirt with his emblem and a bright green cape. The capes could have been better - they really looked more like cloaks than capes - but I'm going to try to alter them a little before they go trick-or-treating tomorrow. Anyway - so they went trick-or-treating at school and went to a neat little Halloween party there.

Max has just turned over a new leaf with trying new foods. Greg and I think its due to his staying for lunch at the school and seeing the other kids try new foods. He eats SOO much better at home now! No whining! We're just stunned at every meal now and we're trying to be so very excited and proud and at the same time - not to make a super big deal out of it because we don't want him to suddenly go back the opposite direction. LOL!

Ash knows the entire alphabet song now and can count to 15 very well. (sometimes more - but he leaves out some numbers. :-) We're constantly amazed at his speech levels and we get compliments all the time from his teachers about how well he behaves and conducts himself and how well he communicates and lately - how well he can feed himself etc at lunch time. (He's the youngest in his class - and still several months out of even being able to enroll in the class - we had to get special permission for him to attend. They said yes mostly due to how well he can communicate.)

I really think the preschool has done wonders for both of the boys. For some reason Max has recently become a little clingy when Greg wants to leave (from dropping them off) - but he wasn't like that to start with so hopefully its a phase.

Today their friend Maddie McCawley came over to play - her parents stayed for dinner and then they left to go to the suburbs for the evening. Maddie is staying the night with us and is just wonderful to have around the boys - they all play so well together. (she is 3 - so its a good age in between Max and Ash) We had pumpkin peppers stuffed with spaghetti for dinner. Its orange peppers with jack-o-lantern faces carved out and spaghetti stuffed in the peppers. And french baguettes.

Maddie is partially the reason we were working so hard on getting the boys moved into their new room today - so that we would have the extra bed for her. We took the bunk beds apart and moved all the beds into the "old" guest room which is a little larger than their previous room. This way both the beds are on the floor, plus Ash's crib. We figured that Ash would need to move to a "big boy bed" soon anyway - and we'll need to put the new baby in the crib - so we might as well get them moved and settled in before the holidays get here. Greg finished painting the room - its "cloud blue". Very pretty - but not what I would have picked out for kids. It was originally going to be for the guest bedroom - but we'll see how it works out. We're going to pick out a fun border for the room and we're thinking of getting one for each of the boys and one for the baby. Again - we'll see. It may look weird having a different border on each wall - but we thought we would try it out. Max got a new Thomas the Train sheet set as part of his birthday and he really loves them. I also got him a new fluffier down alternative mattress pad for his bed. I just feel like maybe he needs a little extra TLC lately - he seems to be going through something.

Tomorrow is Trick or Treating! We're going to the McCawley's neighborhood to trick-or-treat with Maddie this year. Greg I think is going to stay home and pass out candy to our neighborhood kiddos. I may try to make a few "ghosts" to put on the porch to be a little more festive - we've been in such birthday mode lately and "house improvement" mode, I really hadn't gotten to think about Halloween decor too much - although we did put some little decorations up indoors - but that doesn't help outside! LOL!
