Saturday we took the boys to the dentist for their first visit! Max had his first official cleaning and Ash just had a baby check-up to make sure his teeth are coming in like they're supposed to and that his gums look ok and to get him used to being at the dentist etc. (stuff we didn't do with Max because we're sort of the "Oh, he's fine!" type of parents. LOL! Which can be both good and bad I guess) The dentist was awesome! We took them to a pediatric dentist - and they were super-great even with Ash. They have a really good website with lots of tips for bringing a toddler in for a first cleaning. (example: we bought Max a Wall-E and Eve battery operated toothbrush - which he LOOOOVVVESSS and which is probably the primary reason he will brush his teeth at all - to get him used to the feeling of a vibrating toothbrush in his mouth) Ash fussed quite a bit of course - some of that is just his nature - he's kind of "princely" and some of it was because the dentist was sticking things in his mouth. LOL! But - they have a great playroom for the boys while we waited and they get a "passport" to take a "trip" to the exam room (the whole office is set up to sort of resemble an airline check-in from a kids' point of view) and then afterwards they got to pick out a prize from the treasure chest (not sure how that fits in to the airline theme). One of the destinations was Disneyland - we didn't get to go to that room though - ours was Hawaii. I was disappointed. But - they had movies for the kids to watch (Ratatouille, The Bee Movie and Night at the Museum) etc and chairs for the parents to sit in in the exam room. I even took a couple of pictures! (scrapbook you know - which I'm going to do! Really! Eventually!) And of course we got a toddler goodie bag and a baby goodie bag (the baby goodie bag included baby teether wipes and a baby teether toothbrush) And apparently the dentist office as a whole is adopting a Webkinz? And there's a contest to name the critter. (I don't know what any of that is - but there was a stuffed thingy in a glass "cage" that was sort of on display). Anyway - so that was an experience. And at least we've started with the dentist - we've been meaning to do that.... and they have a Facebook page! I got a note from the dentist's facebook page thanking us for coming in! It's Yummy Dental on Facebook if you'd like to see the dentist.
We then went across the street to the Paulina Meat Market - which is OMG the bestest place ever for fresh meats and freshly baked goods/fresh frozen meals etc. Wow - how have we never been there?? And then we stopped for soup from the SoupBox on the way home and had lunch. We nearly dashed back outside after lunch to take advantage of the fabulous WARM NOVEMBER weather!! Took the boys to the park and then for ice cream at the Bobtail Soda Fountain. Awesomeness! Such a fun day. And - and - Greg was super-nice and let me have some "ME" time on the way home and I was able to BROWSE the book shop sans tots for at least 15 minutes.... luxury! (without the *tug*tug* MOMMYmommymommyMOMMYmommyMOM-MEEE *tug* *tug* Me Show you!! MeSHOWYOU MOMMY!!!! - you know - not that I don't love that - I in fact love any sentence that Tot or Tot2 can put together especially if it has the word Mommy in it!! But its nice to have a break to be able to actually look at the books in a store. LOL!)
Sunday we slept in - Greg made french toast and we all lazed around watching cartoons for a while and then we jumped in the car to go to the zoo!!! And see the AMINALS!!! (Max loves the Am--i-nals - actually Ash does too - he can't say it yet - but jumps around all the same when Max says it) And we actually saw some animals this time which was awesome! (we usually play at the playground, have lunch, go to the children's "play center", check out the plants- one of Max's favorites and then leave.) Although we missed the baboon. We'll have to catch him next time - but the elephants were out! And we met up with our friends David & Mary and their boys, Charlie and Eddie for a fun loop around the zoo and just coincidentally ran into some friends of theirs, Becca and her husband which I can't recall right now and their son Jee - all of whom were super nice and we had a good time at the petting zoo with them. (saw a reindeer!! and a bald eagle!! so neat!)
And really after that we were kind of all pooped and we collapsed. Oh - except that Greg had to finish his school work and I had a ton of laundry to do.
We had such a nice weekend and I'm so glad we were able to really get out and enjoy the weather!!
And I think Ash can wear Max's WINTER (flying-snow-chunk-weather) coat from last year and I think Max can still wear his WINTER (flying-snow-chunk-weather) snow pants from last year so we just got Max a new WINTER (flying-snow-chunk-weather) coat and we're going to get Ash some (flying-snow-chunk-weather) snow pants and then I think that we have everything else we need for the WINTER (flying-snow-chunk-weather) that is ahead. Cause its coming. It may be lovely and 70 now - but you know - it could happen tomorrow - you just can't tell - this is Chicago after all. And I have finally FINALLY gotten their drawers all cleared out and set up for winter!! We have a positively huge treasure trove of clothes for little boys - no idea what we're going to do with all of these baby clothes!!
(I get positively grouchy in the winter - am from the South you know)
